Fall Lawn Care Tips

Fall is the ideal time to fertilize, seed and control weeds in your lawn. The weather conditions this time of the year are ideal for planting and root development of grass seed. The warm days and cool nights also help thicken the existing turf.
>>
Fertilizing
Fertilize in the late summer and again in the late fall to provide the added boost that your lawn needs to look its best.
>>
Seeding
Select one of our premium varieties of seed that suits your lawn's needs. Just scratch the bare spots, rake out any leaves or other debris and sow the seed by hand or by spreader. Cover with Emerge Planting Mulch with Fertilizer. Water the newly seeded areas lightly every day until the new seed is well established. Some seeds need up to 3-4 weeks to germinate. Once the grass is established, a deep thorough watering is needed every 2 or 3 days.
>>
Mowing
Don't mow too close. Food is produced in the leaves of the grass plant. Most mowers should be set at 2 1/2 to 3 inches high. The last mowing of the year can be set lower.

Suggested Regiment for General Fall Lawn Maintenance
Labor Day Green-Up - Early September
Step 1. Apply Greenview Green Power or a fall fertilizer. If you have weeds, now is an excellent time to apply a week killer or a fertilizer with broadleaf control.*
*To insure successful germination of grass seed, there must be a four week span of time between the application of a weed killer and the spreading of grass seeds.
Mid September to Mid October
Step 2. Thatch/aerate your lawn to allow more air to circulate through the grass and promote root development.
Step 3. If needed: over-seed to thicken the grass and fill in the bare spots.
End of Year Fall Application - Mid to Late October
Step 4. Apply a fertilizer high in potash. Barrett's recommends Greenview Winter Green Fertilizer (this should be approximately 4-6 weeks after the fall application and will not harm newly seeded lawns).
